Starters for Interactive Whiteboard
Starters is a standalone Windows program which is designed for the teacher to use with the whole class during the oral/mental starter. Fully customisable arithmetic appears on the screen for individual pupils to answer or for whole-class chanting. The latest version has been optimised for use with an interactive whiteboard.
Here are just a few of the program's features
- generate random numbers, additions, subtractions, multiplications and divisions using ranges of numbers specified by the teacher
- choose to display the questions automatically at a set interval (e.g. every 3 secs.) or display a certain number of questions manually and play against the clock (e.g. 30 questions, one for each pupil)
- questions can be displayed in standard format (e.g. 7+4=) or with a missing number (e.g.8+?=12), enabling inverses and the relationships between operations to be explored.
- complete control over the size of screen fonts, the font colour and the background colour
- comprehensive online help which includes descriptions of 100 oral/mental starters with links to the objectives in the Numeracy Strategy's Framework for Teaching Mathematics
New features in the latest version
- Fully optimised for interactive whiteboard use - no need to use the computer keyboard at all.
- The main toolbar can be positioned at the top, the right or the left of the screen.
- All settings and options can be entered at the whiteboard by using the on-screen keypad.
- The on-screen keypad can be moved to the right or the left of the options windows.
