INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING SHAPES.LGO 1. If you are reading this using Windows Notepad, make sure you have activated Word Wrap (from the Edit menu). 2. The file SHAPES.LGO contains a number of logo procedures for use with MSW LOGO. If you haven't got MSW LOGO then you are missing out on a very good package which is completely free. It can be downloaded at www.softronix.com 3. Start MSW LOGO. From the File menu select Load. Go to the location where you have saved SHAPES.LGO, select the file and click on Open. 4. The procedures in the file generate shapes in a variety of colours and sizes. All you have to do is type appropriate words in the Commander Input Box. Here are a few examples of the sorts of things you can type: BIG RED TRIANGLE SMALL GREEN CIRCLE BLUE SQUARE BIG HEXAGON 5. In terms of size, you can type either BIG or SMALL. The following colours can be used: BLACK BLUE BROWN GREEN PINK PURPLE RED WHITE YELLOW The following shapes can be produced: TRIANGLE SQUARE RECTANGLE HEXAGON PENTAGON HEXAGON OCTAGON CIRCLE 6. Don't forget to clear the screen (CS) before you generate a new shape (see what happens if you don't clear the screen first). 7. It is possible to produce several shapes on the screen together. Produce the frst shape, then lift the pen (PU), move to a blank part of the screen, put the pen down (PD) and finally generate the next shape. 8. The procedures can be used by young pupils working at the computer i.e. they can type in things such as "big red circle" and watch what happens. This is valuable experience because it reinforces the language and vocabulary associated with shape, size and colour. 9. The procedures can also be used by the teacher with the whole class gathered around the computer i.e. teacher types in things such as "small blue square" (or lets a pupil come out and do it) and uses the shapes as the basis of discussion. Again, it reinforces the language and vocabulary associated with shape, size and colour. I hope you find these procedures useful. Let me know how you get on.
