Numeracy Star

Numeracy Star has been designed for pupils to use at the computer to practise their recall of number facts and mental calculation skills. Pupils using the program will have an opportunity to practise every relevant learning objective identified in the National Numeracy Strategy Framework for Teaching Mathematics. The teacher can customise the activities so that pupils have to tackle a particular number of questions within a particular target time. The program provides the pupil with detailed feedback which can be printed out and saved either manually or automatically. If the pupil answers all of the questions correctly within the set target time he or she can print out a certificate. All of the printing and saving options can be fully customised by the teacher.

Numeracy Star can also be used by the teacher working with the whole class, for example in conjunction with a digital projector or interactive whiteboard. It would be an ideal resource to use during the oral-mental starter or at the start of the main activity when discussing different mental calculation strategies.
