The Estimation Pack
The Estimation Pack comprises three Windows programs that provide pupils with opportunities to develop their skills in estimating angles, distances and areas.
Estimate the Angle generates angles at random and pupils must estimate their size.
Estimate the Height draws two towers. Pupils are told the height of one tower and they must estimate the height of the other.
Estimate the Area produces various shapes such as rectangles, square, triangles and circles. The area of a base square is provided and pupils must use this to estimate the area of the shape that has been drawn.
All three programs offer the following facilities:
- different levels of difficulty so that tasks can be matched to pupils' abilities
- the pupil's performance is summarised on a table showing his/her estimates together with the true values
- this table can be printed or saved so that the teacher can monitor progress
- a screen of statistics summarising the pupil's performance can be produced and printed out for the teacher to inspect later
