INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING 2P-RACE.LGO 1. If you are reading this using Windows Notepad, make sure you have activated Word Wrap (from the Edit menu). 2. The file 2P-RACE.LGO contains a number of logo procedures for use with MSW LOGO. If you haven't got MSW LOGO then you are missing out on a very good package which is completely free. It can be downloaded at www.softronix.com 3. Start MSW LOGO. From the File menu select Load. Go to the location where you have saved 2P-RACE.LGO, select the file and click on Open. 4. The file contains five procedures, as follows: TRACK1 TRACK2 TRACK3 TRACK4 TRACK5 When you enter the procedure name in the Commander Input Box the procedure will produce a race track for two players to manoeuvre around. 5. Once the track has been drawn on the screen players can type in commands such as FD, RT, LT etc. to get around the track but each command must be preceded by 'P1' or 'P2' depending one whose turn it is. Here are a few examples of possible commands that can be typed in: P1 FD 100 P2 FD 150 P1 RT 45 P2 LT 90 Players take turns to type in a command. The winner is the first person to make one complete lap. If when a player executes a command they go off the track, then they must immediately 'undo' that command (e.g. use BK 100 to undo FD 100) and try again next time. 6. The procedures can be used by pairs of pupils working together at the computer. It is an ideal early LOGO activity which introduces the basic commands and also focuses on important skills such as estimation, and trial and improvement. 7. The procedures can also be used by the teacher with the whole class gathered around the computer. You could divide the class into two teams, corresponding to the two players in the race. Pupils in each team could take turns to suggest possible commands. Discuss these suggestions and perhaps get individual pupils to come out and type them in. I hope you find these procedures useful. Let me know how you get on. Richard English www.numeracysoftware.com feedback@numeracysoftware.com
