INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING 2-PLAYER SHOOT-OUT.LGO 1. If you are reading this using Windows Notepad, make sure you have activated Word Wrap (from the Edit menu). 2. The file 2-PLAYER SHOOT-OUT.LGO contains a number of logo procedures for use with MSW LOGO. If you haven't got MSW LOGO then you are missing out on a very good package which is completely free. It can be downloaded at www.softronix.com 3. Start MSW LOGO. From the File menu select Load. Go to the location where you have saved 2-PLAYER SHOOT-OUT.LGO, select the file and click on Open. 4. The file contains procedures which produce randomly positioned targets on the screen. Pupils must try to hit the target using just one turning command (RIGHT or LEFT) and one movement command (FORWARD). Three different levels of difficulty are available. To produce the targets, type one of the following in the Commander window and press Enter. EASY MEDIUM HARD The EASY targets are fairly large and the turtle is initially facing 'North' (up the screen). The MEDIUM targets are smaller but again the turtle is initially facing 'North'. The HARD targets are even smaller and the turtle initially faces in a random direction. This is a 2-payer game and so pupils must type in either "P1" or "P2" before the other commands. So, for example, pupils can type in things such as: P1 RT 75 FD 240 P2 RT 80 FD 210 5. These sorts of activities provide excellent opportunities for pupils to develop their understanding of angle as an amount of turning and encourage them to estimate both angles and distances. I hope you find these procedures valuable in your maths teaching. Let me know how you get on. www.numeracysoftware.com feedback@numeracysoftware.com
